Well, he finally did it...he turned 23!! And what a day it was!! Here is an outline of the events:
1.The party started out with an early morning phone call at 4:30 from Ryan - all the way from India. It sure meant a lot to the both of us and we were happy to hear that they are doing well.
2. Birthday breakfast presents! He loved the black socks, haha.
3. After class and some studying it was time for a momentous event...BIRTHDAY BOCCE!! Thanks mom and dad! I was smug as I beat Mark in our first game ever...but that quickly faded when we played later that night and he totally smoked me!
4. Back to class and more studying until six, when Mark got home. Between 4 and 6 I was running around to get a birthday cake, dinner and one last gift together.
5. Surprise birthday dinner in the mountains...we couldn't have had better weather. While the grill heated up we played bocce and had fruit salad. Then is was on to grilled salmon and pilaf (Mark's very favorite two foods). I was scared to make both of the dishes because I've never made them but they turned out great...better than expected! The rice was moist and didn't stick and the salmon was delicious and perfectly browned on top because the brown sugar in the marinade caramelized as it cooked.
6. Mark got his last gift...a new tennis racket (which by the way he already showed off his skills this morning in a game...he did great. He was also so sweet to help me with my serve for like half an hour as well as helping me learn to return his killer serve...). As the pictures show, he was excited!
7. All during the day we got phone calls from Miller and Cannon families and Mark was so excited to hear from everyone and grateful for the thoughtful birthday calls.
8. And finally the day ended with a sparkler icecream cake. Why have just candles when you can have sparklers!? We ended up where we caught the very last minute of the gameat Leanna's and then birthday ate cake and had birthday wishes.
All in all it was a very happy birthday celebration and I loved surprising Mark and letting him know how wonderful he is and how grateful I am that he is in my life. He is such a kind, thoughtful, hardworking husband. We have so much fun together. Ok, cheesy enough yet?! Happy Birthday Mark, I lover you.
