10.3.10 - Breakneck Ridge

We've got some catching up to do, but we'll just start with this weekend.

Besides listening to some enlightening talks during the LDS General Conference this weekend, we also managed to go on a fantastic hike called "Breakneck Ridge" up in Beacon, New York. We headed up to Beacon early in the spring to try this same trail, but were discouraged from doing it by the gas station lady because of the rain and poor conditions (easily swayed!). We were excited to try it today.

Swinging down the tree.

Lib, clearly done with picture time.

Checkin the view, beautiful light.

After about five minutes on the trail, both Lib and I were glad that we didn't try to hike it back in the spring. The 'trail', as it were, was just a boulder field going straight up, and, although fun, would have been dangerous enough in the rain. But, on a dry, crispy fall day with the sun dotting through the trees, we had a great time, and felt like kids as we had to use our whole bodies to maneuver around the rocks.

So, gratitude was the key focus of a talk given at General Conference by President Thomas Monson, who is the Church's president and someone we believe is a prophet. I don't know if anyone else has reached a summit, or finished an activity, and felt 'let down' by the view or the results, maybe expecting that it would've been cooler than it was. I'll confess sometimes I do that, and am kind of 'ungrateful' about the experience. Well, I'll type tonight that I'm glad I heard that message, and I'm grateful we went up to Breakneck. I couldn't be luckier to have Lib as a wife, and couldn't be luckier to live the life we do together!

That's it for now, but here's a teaser:
