Summer Projects.

Moving to a new place has been absolutely wonderful. We love the freedom, the nice wooden floors, good lighting, and the pink-flower-wallpaperless walls. Moving from a furnished placed to an unfurnished on a budget, however, was a bit of a challenge. Lib did an incredible job finding stuff online for free, we found a coffee table for like $5, and found some sweet furniture that we decided to fix up.
Lib's been huge in this project. She really has a handy-woman attitude...loves fixing things up, solving problems, getting her hands dirty.
I'd like to think i've contributed to these projects...but this picture is revealing, and Lib claims the prize for this one.
Anyways, as usual I post tons of pictures of the experience, partly because i like pictures (or mostly).
While the bookshelf was pretty simple, the kitchen table was pretty hideous when we got it, and needed some work. Our friends lent us a sander, and we sanded the heck out of it until we got a nice clean place to start over.

We chose a blue stain, which seemed like a great idea. We're not totally sold on it at this point, although it does look nice and is a gigantic improvement.
Lib did all the staining and painting. I apparently played the guitar.

At this point, we're still working on the table. The stain came in pretty dark, and not exactly how we were hoping. So we're looking into some different options--antiquing, stripping it down again, messing with the base, etc.. It's been fun, though! It was exciting to tap this creative side of us that likes to improve and create. Doing it together was really a blast....

Looks like you picked some nice pieces to refinish and did a terrific job with the work (Libby, that is). Mark, keep playing the guitar and taking pictures! The world needs artists too!
