Last weekend Libby and I participated in our first triathlon together!! It was Libby's very first, and she did amazing! The race was outside of St. George, UT at Sand Hollow Reservoir. We were so excited and thankful that Ryan, Heather, and Leanna came down to support us, and to enjoy the weekend together!
We were both excited and a little nervous for this race, due to our somewhat marginal preparation. The day went great, though! The swim was the most gruelling part for both of us. I thought the distance was only .6 miles, so that's what we trained for. After talking with my Dad after the race about how hard and long that .6 miles was, we were informed that 1500 km is actually .9 miles! That explained alot! The bike was our strongpoint, and we both loved it (26 miles). Finally, our legs managed to pound out 6 more miles of running to the finish line! We both had a great time doing the race, and loved the experience!
The rest of the weekend was spent enjoying each other's company at a beautiful vacation home that Heather's parents have. We had a great time!
There should be a slideshow on the right side of the screen with the pix from the weekend. Who wants to join us for the next triathlon?? It would be so fun to train and do it together. Any takers?

We sure love you guys! What an incredible sight it was to see Libby climbing in the water with all of these super buff chics! Her bravery, and sense of peace and calm before the race was incredible! WAY TO GO MARK AND LIBBY!
correction..1500 km is definitely NOT .9 miles...but 1500 m is closer! 900 miles of swimming WOULD be a really long event, though.
Okay, so first I am wondering how Ryan can notice and comment on the "super buff chicks" and thinking that Heather must be a very tolerant wife--then I realize that perhaps Heather actually entered the comment--let me know if I got it right. 900 miles would surely be a world record. .9miles is plenty for any mortal! You guys did great and what a beautiful venue! Wholesome recreational activities are supposed to be part of our family life--looks like you've found an outlet in the short term!
p.s. Mark, add a 5 minute penalty to your time...it's okay to have one person help you get your wetsuit on--but having two people helping is definitely wrong. Dad
I still got first place in my division!!! (of three...)
First place?? And these were the Utah state games? That makes you the state champion! Put that on your next resume: "2008 Triathlon State Champion" -- great wow factor.
Maybe Dad remembers when I (Ryan) got jipped out of a trophy for my pine-wood derby car. I did win. They gave the wrong kid the trophy! Anyways, I remember when dad gave me the brown paper bag with a little blue and gold trophy in it with my name on it, gold derby car on top. Now that Dad's been reminded, I'm sure he can hook you up with some sort of trophy, Mark!
On a more serious note...we left before they handed out all the medals...they were going by distance and age group, so I'm sure you would have gotten something. Did Libby win her division?
I should have gotten second in my division...but they didn't post my score on line. I am super bumed!! Maybe they'll send it to me?? I had no idea they were doing that or would have 'tod' have wanted to stay!!! ha.
Congrats on even finishing :) I just signed up for a 10K run but not sure I'm planning on joining the ranks of swimming anytime soon.
I am in for a family triathlon. Need to pick an event that has relays--for those who don't want to train to swim 900 miles. Location may be an issue; my best guess is that the half-way mark between Chan and Provo is Hay Springs, Nebraska--about 610 miles from each of us. I will set up a google alert and wait for the next tri news coming out of Hay Springs. Ryan, glad you remembered the trophy. Of course, you were robbed and deserved your just reward. In the case of Mark and Libby--well, they just blew off the awards ceremony. But they too deserve some proper recognition--and we can all give that some more thought--think Christmas--think paper bags. Okay, gotta get some work done. Love, Dad M
I love the slideshow! And my sister has a super hot bod!!! I think you guys are such an adorable couple, doing triathlons together. It takes a lot of guts to be photographed in bike shorts but you pulled it off with flying colors. :) I hope this will be your first of many family tris and someday I will join you. Love you and see you tomorrow, ha ha ha can't wait!
